Myths About Beauty are Debunked!

The skin is the largest organ in the body, but few people know how to properly care for it. It’s difficult to tell the difference between myths and truth when there’s media hype and poor beauty advice. Should you, for example, splurge on a high-priced moisturizer?

Three prevalent beauty myths are debunked here.

1. You only need sunscreen if you’re going outside on a sunny day.

Sunscreen should be worn every day, whether inside or outside. It’s a common fallacy that when we’re indoors, we’re safe from the sun’s UV radiation. UV rays, on the other hand, are divided into two categories. While walls shield the UVB rays that cause sunburn, we are nevertheless sensitive to UVA rays indoors. Skin ageing and skin cancer are caused by UVA radiation. Similarly, we are protected from UVB radiation during cloudy days but still require UVA protection. Your sunscreen should have an SPF of at least 20-30. If you don’t want to have to layer makeup over sunscreen, look for makeup that has SPF.

2. You must moisturize and tone your skin on a daily basis.

No two people’s skin needs are the same. While moisturizing every day may be beneficial to someone with dry skin, it may be damaging to someone with oily skin. If your skin is oily, opt for a lotion rather than a cream, but if it is dry, you will require a cream-based moisturizer. A toner, on the other hand, is excellent for oily skin but might upset the PH balance of dry skin. Also, before moisturizing your skin, consider the weather. In humid climates, moisturizing your face on a regular basis might cause breakouts, whilst using a toner in dry climates can make your skin harsh.

3. Acne is caused by makeup.

Makeup artists can exhale a sigh of relief: applying makeup for long periods of time does not cause acne. The villains here are the manner you apply makeup and the products you use. The foundation, contrary to popular assumption, is designed to build a layer over the skin rather than being absorbed into the pores. One of the most common causes of acne is the usage of expired products. Another reason makeup is supposed to cause acne is that if you go to bed wearing it, you can wake up with a breakout. This is due to the fact that not washing your face clogs your skin pores with the dirt and grime of the day.
